No Rain in Sight for Most of California, Desert Southwest
by AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Jim Andrews
California`s rainy season has, aside from locally generous rains in
the south, gotten off to a dry start. In the wake of spotty rains
earlier this week, there is no hint of any wet weather through at
least the coming week. Fundamental shifts in the atmospheric setting
will begin by Monday when a strong, moisture bearing jet stream aimed
for the Pacific Northwest will back away to the north. High pressure
building in answer over the Inter Mountain will dry the skies over
California and the Desert Southwest, thereby affording widespread
sunshine. The jet stream looks set to stay deflected far northwards
right through the coming week. Along the coast, some, if not all, of
these days will have offshore winds with sunshine and above-average
warmth favored and low clouds or fog suppressed. Inland, meantime, the
California Great Valley will likely have some foggy starts leading
day-time warmth to be trimmed somewhat.
